I'm Nick Lane, a registered architect and the founder of ILLOWA.

ILLOWA is a windy stretch of coast on Tarerer-Gunditjmara Country, between Warrnambool and Port Fairy. It's where I live. Some say the name means 'yesterday' which is a nice coincidence because no site is ever a blank slate. When we choose a place to build, we inherit its weather, its wear, its past decisions, its stories and its people. Good architecture responds to all of them.

I've worked locally and internationally, including a body of work in small transportable buildings. With ILLOWA my focus is on permanent, comfortable, site-responsive buildings made with an emphasis on regionally sensitive materials. Homes built to suit their place, their climate and the people who live in them.
